Write to SQL from a client

Good evening, 
 This may be a lack of understanding how PlantSCADA works under the hood. 
 I need to log an equipment rearm reason on a PlantSCADA 2023 project, I'm slowly learning how to use the SQL functions with Cicode, but part is fine. 
 My doubt is how will the PlantSCADA clients also access the SQL DB? 
 Currently I'm using the OBDC method to provide the DSN, and it works on the server. 
 So far I'm testing on a VM, so I dont have a test client to test if just using the DSN in the server will work, or if I need to somehow also get the clients to connect to the SQL Server.

If you want to call the SQL function directly on the client, then the client would need the DSN defined locally. There are connection string options that do not use a DSN, which would be easier. See the SQLConnect function help for examples. Your client would still need access to the appropriate ports on the SQL server, which can be a problem for clients on a separate network. 
 Another option is to have the PlantSCADA server do the SQL writes. For example, the client could call the ServerRPC() function to pass the log message to a function that will run on the PlantSCADA server and do the actual write to SQL.
