Error 'Could not resolve refrence' when I change version system platform

Hey,

I change my galaxy wonderware system platform 2017 to AVEVA systemp platform 2023R2. My objects are in warning .Mes scripts run it's OK but I have warning 'Could not resolve reference ...' My tag exists but I have a warning.

Dynamic ports list and users group list when installing the product

The ports list in Aveva Docs is a generic list, OMI is not listed. Less and less people that install the product actually knows how it all fit together and then just when you get to know Aveva change the something.

An attempt to simplify this was the creating of 'roles' when you go and run the install.

What would be very handy is a list (log entry) of the ports that needs to be opened on a firewall for the selection you have made.

If you select 'Runtime client' then it list the ports that mist be opened. If this is too difficult a corresponding list in Aveva Docs could also work.

Security is become a PITA and new groups are getting introduced in every release.

Can we get a list that indicates which user type must be in which user groups.

A user that logs into a thick client running an OMI application must have access to the Historian for alarms and trends, real time data from the galaxy. If the same user launch an OMI web client they must be in a different set of groups.

Question regarding usage of OMI Web

Hi,

This is a question to Product Management:

We had the assumption that OMI Web needs a Supervisory Server license to run, meaning I can deploy the web view engine to any machine that hosts the web server and pulls the supervisory server license.

I've experienced a different behavior than expected:

1) For a non-RDS machine the deployed web view engine takes some feature (OMI web unlimited read/write clients) of the supervisory server license AND a supervisory client license.
2) For a RDS machine the deployed web view engine takes the "supervisory server" feature and the "OMI web unlimited read/write clients" feature.

=> When I do want to host a web server on a non-RDS machine I need to buy an additional supervisory client license on top of the supervisory server license. Is that the intended usage?

My expectation is that I want to explicitly not use RDS when setting up a web server and I can use the exact same license for that without any extra licenses.

Status Update Inconsistency (Graphic/Symbol) – AVEVA System Platform 2023 R2

Problem Description:

A freezing behavior in tag values within graphic objects/OMI has been identified following the migration/installation of version 2023R2P4.

Symptoms:

A tag value is not updated correctly on the screen (e.g., conveyor belt color).

Observed Scenario:

1. The tag value indicates 3 (conveyor stopped).
2. The operator starts the conveyor, and the value correctly changes to 1.
3. However, on the screen, the conveyor remains white (no visual update).

Details:

The same equipment, displayed on a different screen on the same PC, shows the status updated correctly (green).
In pop-ups, the value also updates normally.
The issue is intermittent (does not occur every time).
When switching screens (opening another and returning), the value updates correctly (there are no OnShow or WhileShowing scripts).

Environment:

Version: AVEVA System Platform 2023 R2 P4
Client: Windows 11 (OMI Client)
Server: Windows Server 2022 (Object Server)
Plant: Small plant with 4 Rockwell controllers

Questions:
Has anyone else encountered this same type of issue?
Are there any recommendations or potential solutions for this behavior?

Cannot drag OMI ViewApp between monitors - System Platform 2023 R2 SP1 P4

After upgrading from System Platform 2023 R2 to 2023 R2 SP1 P4, I noticed that the OMI ViewApp can no longer be dragged from one monitor to another. Previously, the application window was free and could be easily moved to any screen. Now, it is locked to the display where it opens, making it impossible to move it around. Is there any known workaround for this behavior?

Is there a way to use HideGraphic() as dynamic identity?

Hello 🙂

Basically we have faceplates in our Intouch SCADA but they don't use intouch windows, they use ShowGraphic() function in a button script (the identity in the script uses owning object), and it opens a graphic thats hosted in the system platform objects. however want it to close any graphics that have been opened when the window is changed in the intouch. Have tried HideGraphic() function but it seems like because its in template object, when I try use the HideGraphic outside of the script, it doesn't work to close the graphic. I wonder if anyone has done something similar, or knows how I can use the HideGraphic() to close any graphics that are opened on the screen when it changes.

Suppressing "non-Encrypted messages" SMC logs with System Management Server (SMS) disabled

In a recent deployment on a strictly isolated network, I opted not to configure the System Management Server (SMS), aware that this contradicts AVEVA's recommendations. The system is functioning normally. However, the SMC is continuously generating log entries warning about "non-Encrypted messages". How can these specific log messages be suppressed or disabled?

Adding Custom Information / Columns in Alarm Control

We have a requirement to display additional custom information (e.g., Asset ID) within the Alarm Control.

Currently, we can see predefined fields such as User1, User2, User3, but these are already being utilized for other purposes (e.g., severity and related metadata).

Our questions are:

Is there a supported way to add a new custom column in the Alarm Control to display additional data like Asset ID?
If adding a new column is not possible, can existing columns (e.g., User1–User3) be dynamically modified at runtime based on the nature of the alarm or incoming data?
What is the recommended approach for handling such requirements in System Platform?

We are looking for a flexible solution where alarm-related metadata can be displayed dynamically without interfering with existing field usage.

OMI client license thick client

We have a client site that wants two thick clients for their system platform setup:

1 GR node(GR, SMS and License server)

2 AOS node

2 RDP servers

1 Historian server

We are having discussions at the office what is the best way to distribute the license to these two.

Would it be to install the license directly on the thick clients, thereby removing dependency on the GR node.

Or would device reservation be the preferred method?

OMI Namespace Sizing

Has anyone run into any issues around namespace sizing in OMI? I'm in the process of developing a batch layout for a customer, and working with that I've run into a scenario where I have a lot of namespace attributes (around 80). Recently I have run into an issue where it seems like nothing on my namespace seems to be working; writes do not occur to the namespace, proven via logmessage, many (not all) values show up as NaN. I have a support call in but figured I'd reach out to the greater braintrust and see if anyone has run into a block like this. I'm on 2023 P04 in this case.

Alarm Client System Platform

I have a requirement in Alarm Client that when the operator clicks the alarm it redirects to a particular page so that the operator can see the graphic related to that alarm. I understand that the alarm can have multiple different graphics that are related to it from an operations point of view. Is there any way to configure to say which page the alarm redirects the user ?

Area-Level Aggregation in AVEVA System Platform

I would like to inquire about the possibility of obtaining aggregated totals at the Area level within AVEVA System Platform.

Specifically, I am looking for a method to calculate and display:

The total number of pumps currently running within a building, with further breakdowns at each level and floor.
The total number of fault alerts at each Area level for all underlying devices.

I previously implemented dynamic binding using the BindTo method to achieve this aggregation. However, when applied to thousands of objects and attributes, the MX Service crashed due to the large number of calls.

Could you please advise whether there is a recommended or best-practice approach (e.g., roll-up attributes, scripts, queries, or templates) to perform hierarchical aggregation efficiently without impacting MX Service performance?

Converting InTouch Projects with Alarm/Trend Clients

Hi,

Our site has a lot of older Intouch projects that have embedded industrial graphics in them. These graphics have alarm and trend clients embedded in them that are shown as popups when items are clicked on. From my research, OMI doesn't work with .net objects embedded into the graphics.

What options do I have then? Having a separate pane in the layout with an alarm/trend client isn't really suitable. I am new to OMI and I'm not sure on how I can fix this issue without a complete revamp of the projects. Which is frustrating as one of our projects is slow and prone to crashes with Intouch, but from my testing of it in OMI shows a big performance gain.

I'm experiencing error when using GraphicAccess (System Platform 2023 SP1 P01) Wondering if anyone else has encountered the same thing

When calling ExportGraphicToXML, sometimes it works but sometimes it will fail

If the export operation is successful, when calling ImportGraphicFromXML on the just now exported xml to import it back (with no change to the xml file), the import fails

Error message:

The interface is unknown. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706B5)

Automatic start-up of OMI ViewApp

I would like to ask whether there is a supported or recommended way to automatically start the OMI ViewApp during system startup or user logon.
Specifically, I am looking for guidance on one or more of the following:
-Native functionality within AVEVA System Platform / OMI to auto-launch the ViewApp
-Use of Windows startup mechanisms (for example, services, scheduled tasks, or Group Policy)
-Availability of any PowerShell scripts or best-practice examples to automate launching the OMI ViewApp
-Any alternative approaches commonly used in control room or multi-operator environments

Any suggestions, references, or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Can AppEngines, ViewEngines and IO Servers benefit from GPU's?

Does SP support the usage of GPUs rather that CPUs?.

With larger monitors and multiscreen solutions, the need for fast rendering is increasing.10-20 trends on an overview page is not rare. The GPU should be better performing in this task, but from my understanding the AppEngines and ViewEngines are tied to single cores and therefore will not profit from GPUs.

What is AVEVAs comment on this?

How do I know when StoreForward data is securely stored in Historian?

In a meeting with a customer, who have had challenges on their network that triggered StoreForward on one or more AppEngines I received a collection of questions related to how it works, how to visualize status for the operator and whether it is 100% bulletproof.

Objectviewer lists these attributes related to StoreForward:

DeletionThreshold and MinDuration is part of the configuration, but where to find the details on the rest?

I guess they can be used to inform the operator – but details are needed to ensure that we are not misleading the operators.

In my test environment I can see that InStoreForward toogles if I stop and start the Historian, but does the value ‘false’ mean that the Historian is back online AND data is forwarded to the Historian?

Or how should I verify the transfer is completed?

Will Historian acknowledge the transfer of data when they are in the RAM of the Server? - or will it happen when data is merged into the HistoryBlocks.

Telemetry Server - How to mass create many Group Instances at once from Group Template

Hi everyone, in Telemetry Server I've set up a IED based on a CID file using 61850 protocols. I understand the step to get the point reference for logical node (for example right click to view point status to get full name), however how can I get the point reference for dataset? there's no option to right click and view status

The hierarchy looks something like this

IED>LD>LN.....etc

IED>Data Sets>Dataset01>LD01>MEASUREMENTS

MEASUREMENTS contain the following members:

Template modification takes extremely long to propagate to thousands of instances.

We are experiencing very long propagation times in AVEVA System Platform when modifying object templates.

When a change is made to a base template, it takes several hours for the update to propagate through all derived templates and their instances. Our Galaxy contains thousands of instances based on these templates.

This makes even small template changes very difficult to manage in a production environment.

Could you please advise:

What factors most affect template propagation performance (e.g., number of instances, inheritance depth, UDA, scripts, alarms, historized attributes, etc.)?
Are there recommended architectural best practices to reduce propagation time in large Galaxies?
Are there configuration settings, services, or maintenance steps (e.g., GR node tuning, cache cleanup, auto-deploy settings) that can improve this behavior?
Are there known performance limits or documented guidelines for template/instance scalability in System Platform?

We would appreciate any recommendations for handling large template hierarchies more efficiently.

Nested Layout AutoFill Fails to Display Content from Current Asset with a specified ContentType

Configuration Details

Master Layout (Layout1): Contains Pane1.
Nested Layout (Layout2): Is set as the Content for Pane1 of Layout1.
Layout 2's Pane 1 Settings: AutoFill is enabled, looking for content associated with the Current Asset that has a ContentType of 'Overview'.

Observed Behavior

The Layout2 container correctly loads and appears within Pane1 at runtime/preview. However, the expected SCADA graphic (which is configured on the selected Asset with the 'Overview' ContentType) does not load inside Layout2. So at Runtime the Layout2 loads correctly without showing any content, even if I'm navigating in an asset with a content with ContentType: Overview.

Goal

My main goal is to use this nested structure as a basis for a dynamic SCADA interface where Layout 1' s Pane1 can load different layouts (e.g., Layout_2D or Layout_3D) via script, each configured to use AutoFill with different custom ContentTypes (e.g., User_Defined_1, User_Defined_2).

I need to understand why the static AutoFill configuration fails when the target content of the pane is another Layout, to ensure the dynamic solution will function correctly.
