Clarification on Siemens S7-400H PLC Redundancy Support in InTouch Unlimited Standard

Dear AVEVA Support Team,

I would like to clarify the compatibility of Siemens S7-400H redundant PLC systems with AVEVA InTouch Unlimited Standard.

Specifically, my query is:

  • Does InTouch Unlimited Standard (using the SIDirect OI Server) support communication with Siemens S7-400H PLC redundancy (hot standby configuration)?

  • If yes, is the redundancy switching handled automatically within the SIDirect driver by configuring both redundant CPU IP addresses, or does InTouch require any additional configuration to handle failover?

Your guidance on the recommended setup and best practices would be highly appreciated.

  • Hello Chetan,

The InTouch version is nor relevant for device compatibility, as the communication is managed through the SIDIRECT Communication Driver.

The driver has the following compatibility for S7-400H PLC, according to the Wonderware Siemens - SIDirect OI Server 2023 R2 SP1 - Technology Matrix:

    S7-400 (S7-400H)

    (Link to product page)
    - Polling / Cyclic mode Supported

     *** S7-400 - Supported up to firmware version v7.0.2***

    *** S7-400H - Supported up to firmware version v6.0.9***

Additionally, the driver supports redundancy using a REDUNDANT_DEVICE object that will point to the primary and redundant CPUs configured as independent connections. For complete guide on set-up, check the following documentation: Device redundancy.

The InTouch application will use a single Access Name that will point to the Device Group (Topic) defined in the REDUNDANT_DEVICE object.
