There is also a utility to query the modbus device for data which is called Poindexter that is typically a part of the interface installation kit: Where do I find the Modbus POINDexter utility?

I also recommend making sure your documentation for your modbus device includes a register map, since you will need to know not only the register address that you want to get data from but also the offset that is being applied. You will also need to know how your modbus device stores data, especially for float32 data as there are many different ways it can be stored: Location3 (data type and function code)
