About the unusable Excel PI add-in

Thank you for your help. I installed PI to update my PC, but when I start Excel, a message saying "Please disable PI's Excel add-in" appears.

If you select "Yes" to disable it, Excel will start up, but the PI add-in is not displayed and cannot be used.

If you select "No", Excel will crash.

I reinstalled it, but the situation was the same.

The environment is Windows 10, Microsoft 365, and PI DataLink 2023 is installed.

Please tell me what to do

Thank you

  • Hi Kusumoto,

If an Add-in has a fatal error and the process dies. Excel will notice that and either auto disable for the next time or offer to disable. To check this, Open your registry editor. To do this, open your Windows Start menu and type "regedit".

    Go to

    a. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\Excel\AddIns\PI DataLink

    b. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins\PI DataLink

Note what the 'LoadBehavior' is set to. It will be a number like 0 or 1 or 2 or 3. If the LoadBehavior is anything other than "3" then follow these steps:

    1) Close Excel. Make sure the "Excel.exe" process is not running in the Windows Task Manager.

    2) Open the registry editor again. Double-click the registry key to edit it.

    3) Change the Load Behavior to "3". Close the registry editor.

    4) Re-open the registry editor to ensure "3" is still there.

    5) Open Excel. The add-in should now load automatically at startup.
