Can I re-run a past event frame to test my notifications? And Tips on working with notifications?

I am wanting to test my notifications in PI AF, and would like to use an actual past event frame to do it. I don't see any obvious way to do this, although I had thought it was possible. Is there a way this can be done?

Also, I am finding the notification format difficult to work with. For instance, a single line of text that includes a notification field in the middle breaks both before and after that field in the test email I receive, even though it does not in the HTML preview. Can anyone recommend a hands-on resource for working with AF notifications, especially how to work around its quirks?

  • If you do find a way to reactivate an event frame, please ping me. That would be useful.

The way I've started testing my notifications is by creating event frames using a sin wave tag, kind of like in this screenshot. Should be a part of the Interface for Random Simulator Data, or the Interface for Ramp Soak Simulator Data.

That will give you a reliable, repeatable set of values to test your notification trigger logic on. Way better process than trying to write in false values to trigger an alert, or just waiting for an event and hoping it works.

Formatting notifications.. whole other thing.. Not much advice for that other than trial and error lol.

Also one key issue that I've experienced is relying on a weak Email -> SMS gateway. If you're planning on sending SMS alerts, try a dedicated service instead of a phone carrier PHONENUMBER@CARRIER.NET endpoint.

I've had significant issues with having notifications be delivered out of time or not at all.
