Manual data entry tool?

We are a medium sized wastewater treatment plant which just implemented Rockwell's Factorytalk SE Historian 8.00 which seems to be a licensed version of PI. The application works great for PLC data collection. We were wondering if there is a tool available that provides for manual data entry. We store a lot of lab test data in spreadsheets. Storing the data in the historian may simplify data retrieval.

I've seen the Mobile Manual Data Entry tool but information is sparse and seems dated.

Thanks for the help.

  • The only AVEVA supported product for manual data entry is PIML (assuming a UI and not programmatically). The best approach would be to use the Web version, but that version does still depend on the 2014 version of the desktop client. While it's possible I have missed notes from AVEVA on the status of the project, PIML does seem, for all intents and purposes, to be an abandoned project on its way toward being officially non-supported.

For manually entering data into PI, your best bet is to either build a tool within the company, or to purchase a product from a vendor. I could not guide you on which vendor to use, but there are a couple of vendors that offer standalone products, and some that offer solutions through PI Vision.
