Getting around the 50-tag limit on a single trend

Is there any way to get around the 50 tag limit on a trend? I require 70. I've tried overlaying trends with transparent backgrounds etc. but it's too messy and difficult to edit. I am using PI ProcessBook 2018. Thank you!

  • I suggest migrating to PI ProcessBook's successor: PI Vision. PI ProcessBook has been deprecated for many years now and won't be supported after this year.

Why do you need >50 tags on a trend? Having even 5 tags in a graph can get messy. Have you considered creating new tags that combine the data of the tags that you are trying to display?

  • Thank you, We require 50 tags as we have 300+ machines effectively in 60 machine groups, so would like to represent each of those groups trends (which includes 60 machine trends). I assumed PI vision may be the way but I'm not sure our business has the transition in their scope at this stage. I am in the process with our technical team of trying to get some combined tags, as you have suggested to reduce the amount required per trend, just thought there may be another way Slight smile

  • Hi ,

There is a per-user setting for PI ProcessBook that governs this parameter. Please search on 'Max Traces' parameter from the PI ProcessBook User Guide > ProcBook.ini > Trend Definition section.

Please be aware that changing this parameter could give you a headache when you're to migrate to PI Vision, which to my knowledge has a similar restriction to protect servers. Other symbols in PI Vision may offer helpful features, such as Dynamic Search Criteria. But Trend symbol does not support DSC yet.
