Pi Notifications - {Error Retrieving Results} For a PI Point

At the end of each day, I have a PI point being used as a trigger to initiate an Event Frame for an Element in AF. A notification is setup off of this Event, and in the email I am trying to access additional PI Points within this Element directly.

The Event frame triggers and the notification sends. However, the PI points I am accessing from the element will not show any data within the email, it only shows {Error Retrieving Results}. This happens regardless of using "Value at start time" or "value at send time".

Within the notification email preview itself, the correct values that are showing within the AF Element do show up, it is only when the email is actually sent that the issue arises? I looked around the Forum and found other posts, one which said to look into Security. Within AF, the 'Notifications' Identity have the correct permissions set.

Really not sure what else to try, what I am trying to do seems simple and straightforward. My PI Point Attributes on the element the analyses and notification are running on are healthy and I can watch them change as the values they are attached to change at the PLC level.

  • Hi ,

There are a number of possible causes for this error. You're going to need more information to find exact cause.

Security does seem to be the most common cause. I found an article about it. The article suggests turning up the log level and looking for a specific message in the logs to confirm the error is caused by a security issue.

It is possible that your PI System Explorer client has the correct permissions, but the Notifications service itself does not. But as you mentioned, "the 'Notifications' Identity [has] the correct permissions set." So it's probably not that.

I suggest you increase the log level to "Trace" and check the error logs for messages that give more information about the error. If that doesn't work, or if you have trouble parsing the logs, then you should open a case with Tech Support.
