While PI AF / PI Vision are not supported on AWS RDS, AWS RDS custom does appear to provide some of the missing features that blocked implementation before.
Does anyone have some ideas about that?

I know this is a super old thread, but yes, it definitely works. It came up in my search as I worked with other customers that were implementing this, now that I moved on the AWS side 
Although, I would check with the respective teams (PI Vision, AF) if they have limitations around supporting it, but from a technical standpoint, it does work and allows you access to the OS level so you can create the local groups, run the scripts locally, etc.
