Intercept inbound data before it hits PI Data Archive?

Working with a client that has PI and AspenTech IP21 historians. Client is wanting to route as received, i.e. no internal historian compressed, data to a cloud platform for data analytics purposes.

To achieve the customer ask in IP21 we have interfaced with the IP21 OPA UA Server to access live data before it gets processed by IP21 historian/compression.

We are trying to assess if there is a similar way to get data from PI? We have access to PI via the PI SDK and can read data from the Data Archive and via Data Pipes.

Is the functionality the client is asking for achievable with PI as the data source to our cloud platform? Which PI technology should we be exploring to get this to work?

Thx

Dave

  • Hi ,

You may be interested in Edge Data Store (EDS). This product might be able to provide a custom access to the data on-route to PI DA. It can also send data directly to Aveva Data Hub, which is a Aveva's cloud platform.

PI Interfaces/Connectors generally do not allow users to access the data until it reaches PI Data Archive servers. This is to increase the efficiencies and throughput. With EDS too, the amount and frequency of data should be carefully examined for each use-case scenarios.
