I'm new to the PI System. I have an OPC-UA server as the datasource and want to use an PI OPC-UA Connector to capture that data into my destination PI Server. Does the datasource server need to have the AF Server service installed with local AF databa

Would it be possible to just install the connector on datasource server and point the default Asset Server and Data Server to the destination PI Server?

    Hello,

     

    Where should AF server be installed? Generally it is "near" your PI Data Archive (sometimes co-hosted for very small systems). See more info here https://docs.aveva.com/bundle/pi-system-topologies-for-pi-server-2018/page/1271744.html

     

    Where should the connector be installed? It can be co-hosted on your data source (I suppose a SCADA server of some kind). I would avoid this. If you look at the minimum system requirements and my own experience of the connector, it can be very heavy on system resources and may have adverse effects on the SCADA performance. Depending on the SCADA system and your operating environment this may introduce unacceptable safety risks. In that case it is probably worth the extra CAPEX to have a dedicated PI hardware which will not interfere with SCADA performance.
