PI Vision 2023 Dashboard Development

So I moved to another department that is looking for a visualization tool. My old department we would develop 100s of screens using ProcessBook and just put the .svg files into the Webfolder.

I noticed that 2023 does not support ProcessBook and I've read ProcessBook will be phased out in the future. ProcessBook was a fast user friendly way to develop screens for PI Vision. Now that is gone, has the website improved enough to develop complex dashboards solely on the website? I mean making like 100s of dashboards that can all be formatted in a similar way, so that the site looks fluid and professional.

  • ProcessBook is officially no longer supported and many companies have already removed it from end-user workstations.

Vision is easy to use, but I highly recommend setting up AF structures to use the data, rather than using PI Points directly. This is the part that is the challenge for most end users / consumers of PI. Setting up the AF hierarchy can be a pain and time consuming. But this approach is recommended because changes to underlying points (like swapping out a point sourced from Data Source A to Data Source B) is much easier to do in AF than it is in PI Vision or Excel.

PI Vision 2023 does offer setting up standardized "themes" (ie color schemes). You can also set up a template PI Vision display that can allow users to build their own displays. For example, if you have a particular header or sidebar format, you could set that in the template display and allow the users to save new displays.

  • Hi, we also had some struggles moving from Processbook to PI Vision, because we missed a lot of features. That's why we developed some extensions for PI Vision to have all the features we need. You can download those extensions here if you want to: https://software-athlete.com/
