PI Connectors use Asset Framework for managing the connection/points whereas Adapters use the PI Web API and bypass AF. Connectors are able to sync models for some protocols (ex OPC) whereas Adapters cannot. Adapters are built for the cloud (CONNECT) which is the reason there are no model syncs.
