AVEVA™︎ InTouch HMI 2023 R2 SP1 P02 Technical support

I have a Tricon CX PLC Controller that is connected to:

1- Engineering Workstation that shall Have AVEVA Intouch window viewer and window maker on it, and a standalone HMI application
also, the workstation has a DDE server installed on it, Tags in the Intouch application will be connected to this server to read the tags and write tags to the controller

2-P6 Harmony PC BOX with 19’’ inch Touch Screen on the System Panel Door that shall have the same standalone application runtime working on it

3-Operators' workstation in another building connected to the Touch screen, Engineering workstation and the controller with a fiber optic cable and all the Components are connected to a switch, this workstation also runs the same Standalone runtime application on it

Note: The application has 2500 Tag, and all the Workstations and PC BOX have windows 10 Operating system

  1. Do I have to choose the application server product when installing the InTouch window viewer and window maker?
  2. Where can I get the Exact Part numbers of the AVEVA Intouch Licenses required for this setup and the description for the capabilities of each license?
  3. Do I need to purchase an SQL Server License or not or SQL Express will be enough, I'm planning to use the Alarm DB logger for historical alarms and events?
  4. How many tags and for how Long the Intouch HMI Data Logger Can Logs the data to view in historical Trends without AVEVA Historian installed?

  • Hi,

    1. No, you do not need to install Application Server.
    2. From the local software distributor, which is the typical point of purchase. Very likely, it will be part number InTch-30-N-231, which is the 2,500 tag count and it includes Communication Drivers Standard. You may not need the Com Drivers but this part has the same price as the equivalent without Com Drivers so you may as well get more for the same price. If I understood your setup correctly, you may need a second license for the device in the other building.
    3. The Alarms Database is compatible with SQL Express. Typically, a higher edition of SQL Server is required only if you surpass the scalability limitations put by Microsoft on the Express edition.
    4. I don't know a definitive number, but I suspect it depends a lot on the storage rate, i.e. the total number of data changes stored. My perspective is that the internal data logger is suitable for trending inside the application which for HMI applications often is in the range of shift, week, month, whereas Historian is the better choice to serve reporting and analysis workflows which tend to require longer data retention periods.
